Meldrum Bay Inn & Restaurant

Just past the last turn in the long highway that skirts the northern shores of the Manitoulin Island, and just before the sign that announces the end of Highway 540, stands the Meldrum Bay Inn. In many ways the heart of this small village, the historic Inn has welcomed visitors since it was built in 1876.

Meldrum Bay is one of those rare Ontario destinations that is unchanged by the passage of time, reminding us of a simpler time when fishing and logging drove the economy and steamships plied the waters of the North Channel. Once a busy logging, mill, and fishing town, today Meldrum Bay is a village of tranquil beauty, serenity, and purity. It is a heavenly destination for cottage owners, visitors from Canada and all around the world, couples, nature lovers, bird watchers, kayakers, cyclists, and motorcyclists. Meldrum Bay is also home to the Lafarge limestone quarry, one of North America’s largest; occasionally ocean-going freighters can be seen plying their way to the dock.

We and our resident hummingbirds joyfully welcome you and look forward to your visit. We like our guests to consider the Inn their home away from home, a place to slow down, relax and reconnect with family and friends. The Inn is cozy, the rooms are uniquely decorated with antique furniture, and the cuisine is among the best on the Island. A complimentary hot breakfast buffet with fresh fruit and baked goods is included for all guests, and complimentary high-speed Internet access is available throughout the Inn.

The Meldrum Bay Inn offers you all the amenities while you step back in time and enjoy the wonder of nature and the breezes from the North Channel. We offer seven second-floor guest rooms that share two full baths in the tradition of many early Ontario Inns. Each room has its own special qualities and views, and is unique in size, decoration, and furnishings. When the weather turns chilly, each room is heated by its own electric fireplace. In returning visits you’ll want to experience each room and what it offers. A comfortable main-floor parlour is a wonderful place to relax, chat, watch television or a movie, read our collection of books or get to know your new-found friends. We've been known to serve dinner here when we're especially busy! The Inn occasionally hosts live entertainment during summer.

We share a special relationship with our boater friends; the Inn is within shouting distance of the docks and boat launch, and mariners have learned over the years that the Inn is a great place for a lunch, dinner, a place to check marine weather forecasts, connect to the Internet, or for enjoying a peaceful night ashore.

Group packages and rates are available upon request. Please call to arrange your accommodation needs and to help us plan your special events.  The garden is available for guests' relaxation. We discuss our cancellation policies with you at the time of room booking. Visit us online at: www.meldrumbayinn.com
