The Menesetung Bridge-Tiger Dunlop Trail begins at Goderich harbour behind the grain elevators and it can also be accessed from North Harbour Road. The trail may be walked or cycled and the first 4 kilometres are wheelchair accessible. The view from the bridge above the estuary is spectacular and many an angler has a favourite spot to fish for salmon or rainbow trout along the Maitland River’s expansive valley. From there the trail continues east along the Goderich-Auburn Rail Trail. Another option is the Heritage Tree Trail that leads west to the lake past a massive 200 year-old oak tree.
Tiger Dunlop's tomb is located in an idyllic, secluded park on the south side of the trail just before the 3-kilometre marker. Dr. William "Tiger" Dunlop was one of the town's founders, an army surgeon, raconteur, writer and an eminent personality whose colourful history is outlined on historical plaques at the site and through books and exhibits at the Huron County Museum in Goderich.
