Southampton Long Dock Beach

One visit to historic Southampton, oldest port on the Bruce Coast, and visitors will know why it makes a great destination. The beaches are free of automobile traffic, hence the peaceful surroundings that make Southampton one of the most idyllic communities on Lake Huron. Take a stroll along the beach boardwalk to the Long Dock Beach and admire the giant flagpole at the end of High Street. A picnic shelter is located at 273 Front Street. The Chantry Dunes raised boardwalk is accessible from Island Street; the west end explores the delicate savannah ecosystem along the dunes. The beach is also a nesting area of one of the rarest birds in Canada, the Piping Plover. Sunsets along Lake Huron are famous for their beauty and many dramatic scenes. The town upholds its Scottish traditions every Friday during summer as a bagpiper pipes down the sunset.
