Wallaceburg & District Museum

The Wallaceburg & District Museum is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to preserving and displaying the cultural property of Wallaceburg and the surrounding area. There is a rich heritage to be discovered here at the museum, from one of the biggest unsolved mysteries in Canada to the Lee Enfield Rifle Prototype that was first test fired in Wallaceburg, there is a lot to see and learn!

For instance, the Town of Wallaceburg purchased our building from Wallaceburg Hydro for $1.00 in 1983. The vacant Hydro Office at 505 King Street was turned over to the Historical Society by Mayor Donald Truan. The museum had a home. The Wallaceburg & District Historical Society became a registered charitable organization on September 1, 1983 and was incorporated on June 4, 1985. For local history enthusiasts, it was a dream come true when the museum officially opened June 29, 1984. During the years that followed the museum became an active and operative historical centre.

The Wallaceburg & District Museum houses numerous exhibits. Some of the major displays include; the Glass Gallery, Industrial Room, Marine Room, School House, James Streetscape, Baldoon Settlement and Mystery Rooms, Toy Room, Legion Room, Sports Hall of Fame, Lee Enfield rifles, Music Room, a temporary display that is changed ever two months as well as an art space.

Our art space is home to many local artists’ each year as well as our annual Juried Art Exhibit that takes place during the summer. The Juried Art Exhibit helps local artists get on their feet and allows them to express their talents through anything from sculpture to painting with cash prizes awarded to best in show, people’s choice, and best youth piece. Running from July 15 to September 2, 2016, allows the Juried Art Exhibit to operate during the town wide event of WAMBO (Wallaceburg’s Antique Motor & Boat Outing) which attracts thousands to the community every year.

You will find plenty of friendly, knowledgeable staff and dedicated volunteers who will make you feel at home. So come visit us today for a blast from the past! We look forward to your visit here at the Wallaceburg & District Museum.

The Wallaceburg & District Museum continues to be not only an artifact depository, but has also raised a public awareness of heritage appreciation.
